About the National Standards


The National Standards Taskforce has developed the National Standards for Australian Museums and Galleries, published both in PDF format (to download & print), and online at CAN (to browse).  The National Standards Taskforce represents the Australian museum sector – its members have been drawn from all states and territories, through the following organisations:

ACT Museums and Galleries
Arts Tasmania
Collections Council of Australia Ltd
History Trust of South Australia
Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory
Museum and Gallery Services Queensland Ltd
Museums & Galleries NSW
Museums Australia (Victoria)
Western Australian Museum

The Ian Potter Foundation has supported the National Standards for Australian Museums and Galleries by funding the development, copyediting and design of this document.

For the sake of consistency, organisations using this document are asked to retain the exact wording of the Principles, Standards and benchmarks used in the National Standards when integrating them into their own training materials, policies and guiding documents. Please note the version number of this document, as the version numbering will change, together with some content, when this document is updated.
